Response from the Blake campaign about Brad Zaun’s misleading ads:

During Matt’s four years on City Council he never once voted to raise the tax levy. Matt either kept the tax rate the same or lowered it. In fact, Urbandale had the second lowest property tax levy in the Des Moines metro for cities over 10,000 people. The growth in the budget over those four years is from the increase in property tax assessments and the growth of Urbandale. Growing communities need additional services, amenities, and personnel to support the city, such as additional police officers, fire fighters, parks, streets, etc. Matt’s opponent is lying when he states that he raised property taxes.

Matt also voted to allow a special election on the rec plex. His role was to allow it to go to voters to decide whether they wanted to add the complex to Urbandale. It was ultimately voted down by citizens and Matt is proud that his community participated in a collective voice for the future of their community.
