DESCRIPTION:Rob Boston of Americans United for Separation of Church and State\, will headline the Polk County Democrats 2025 Summer Dinner on Thursday\, July 16 at 5:30 p.m. at The Loft DSM. \n\n\n\nRob serves as Senior Adviser at Americans United for Separation of Church and State and is the former editor of Church & State magazine. He’s the author of four books\, including Taking Liberties: Why Religious Freedom Doesn’t Give You the Right to Tell Other People What to Do\, and has appeared in major documentaries like God & Country and American Heretics. Rob brings decades of experience pushing back against the rise of religious extremism in American politics—and we’re honored to bring him to Polk County. \n\n\n\nThis event will also celebrate outstanding local leaders with the presentation of: \n\n\n\n\nVolunteer(s) of the Year*\n\n\n\nThe 1932 Award*\n\n\n\nYouth Leadership Award recipients*\n\n\n\n\n*Links to nominate volunteers will be available in Tuesday’s newsletter. \n\n\n\nAdditional speakers will be announced in the coming weeks. \n\n\n\nDinner will be catered by Great Caterers of Iowa and includes a buffet of salad\, two entrees (vegan option available)\, sides\, bread\, and dessert. DESCRIPTION:Join your local Democrats and walk with Johnston Area Democrats in the 2025 Johnston Green Days Parade. Line up begins at 5pm (we will be in AREA 4\, see below)\, and all walkers must be in place by 5:30 (parade rules). The parade starts at 6pm! \n\n\n\nIf you have any questions please contact us (johnstonareademocrats@gmail.com) \n\n\n\nInstructions From The Parade Organizer\n\n\n\nStaging Instructions: \n\n\n\nWe will begin staging in the west Corteva parking lot at 5:00 PM and will need you in place and ready to go no later than 5:30 PM. Enter the staging area from NW 62 nd Ave onto South Drive. Proceed to the check-in tent\, where you will be directed to your area. If you have several participants being dropped off\, please have drivers return and exit on NW 62 nd Ave the way they entered. \n\n\n\nArea 4 \n\n\n\n\nVolunteer Parade Staff will be in this area to assist you once you arrive. Please enter the staging area from NW 62 nd Ave onto South Drive. Proceed to the check-in tent\, where you will be directed to your area which is at the intersection of South Drive and Pioneer Pkwy.\n\n\n\nWe will begin releasing floats toward Pioneer Pkwy at 5:45 PM so ready to head out on the route at the 6:00 PM start time. Parade Staff will let you know when it is time to be released to the parade route.\n\n\n\nWe must keep an OPEN LANE on South Drive for emergency response vehicles\, so there is no parking along South Drive for any reason.\n\n\n\nPlease ensure that your staging area is clean before you leave.\n\n\n\n\nIf you have questions\, Volunteer Parade Staff will be available Thursday evening to assist\, or you can call or email me prior to parade day. \n\n\n\nThank you again for participating in the Johnston Green Days Parade!
